2017 Symposium Sessions

Looking back at the 20th Anniversary Prostate Cancer Symposium May 20 in Boston.

Attendees were welcomed to the Symposium by MPCC board member Avi Nelson; Anita Christie, Director of the Office of Clinical Preventive Services at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health; and Jamie Bearse, CEO of ZERO: The End of Prostate Cancer.

The first panel was “Prevention and Screening” moderated by Andrew Vickers, PhD of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Panelists were Peter C. Albertsen, MD, J. Jacques Carter, MD, and Marc B. Garnick, MD.

The second panel, “Active Surveillance and Early Stage Disease” was moderated by Laurence Klotz, MD of the University of Toronto and featured panelists Adam S. Kibel, MD, Eric A. Klein, MD, Kent W. Mouw, MD, and Clare M. Tempany, MD.

The third panel, “Metastatic Disease and Research,” was moderated by Glenn J. Bubley, MD of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Panelists were William G. Nelson, MD and Susan F. Slovin, MD.

MPCC 2017 Awards were presented to three people richly deserving of the accolades.

The Charles Austin Award went to longtime advocates and support group leaders, Stan and Fran Klein, and was presented by Dr. Glenn Bubley.

The Jack Colbert Memorial Award, presented by Peter O’Connell, went to pioneering researcher and physician, Dr. Marc Garnick.
